Nova Scotia hosts Peace Camp

Twenty young people from one of the world's most volatile regions will spend the next two weeks at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S., attending a peace camp.

The project is aimed at breaking negative stereotypes and building understanding, trust and mutual respect.

Peace Camp Nova Scotia and the Coady International Institute will host Israeli and Palestinian youth from both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, areas that have seen constant conflict over the past several decades.

Coady director Mary Coyle says the camp is a natural fit with the work that Coady does on a regular basis.

Central Nova MP Peter MacKay, Canada's new defence minister, says the camp will promote greater understanding between the future leaders in both countries.
