Our Mission
Peace Camp Nova Scotia (PCNS) works to bring together Palestinian and Israeli teens, aged 15-17, for two weeks of intensive dialogue, creative arts and leadership building on the grounds of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. Building upon the work model of Peace Camp Canada and in partnership with the Canadian Foreign Ministry (DFAIT) and the Coady International Institute, PCNS is a youth for youth initiative that prides itself on the quality and scope of its facilitation, on its balanced leadership structure, and on the Canadian moral and civic values it seeks to instill in its campers.
The Goals of Peace Camp Nova Scotia are Threefold:
1. To create, build and sustain lasting friendships and bonds between Palestinians and Israelis; relationships that are built upon mutual understanding, respect and trust.
2. To inspire, build and empower the next generation of leadership in the Middle-East by instilling the value of personal responsibility within our campers; this as we strongly believe that social change begins with individual action.
3. To illuminate what has long been forgotten; Namely, that the similarities between Palestinians and Israelis, indeed between Muslims, Christians and Jews, by far exceeds the imagined and often exaggerated differences.
